Sporting striker Paulinho has been suspended for three matches after words addressed to the fourth referee of the League Cup final, the Disciplinary Council (CD) of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) said in a statement on Tuesday.
“Corrupt, corrupt, you are corrupt”said Paulinho, according to the official document issued by the CD of the FPF.
In the final that the Lions lost to FC Porto (2-0), Saturday in Leiria, the striker was sent off after seeing two yellow cards in the 63rd and 71st minutes, resulting in one of three games suspension.
The other two penalty games are the result of words addressed to the refereeing team as they leave the field of play, with the FPF CD’s penalty card, released this Tuesday, pointing out that Sporting’s striker “pointed the finger at the fourth referee went in hand” to leave offenses to the team led by João Pinheiro.
In this way, Paulinho will be out of the meetings with Sporting de Braga, on Wednesday, Rio Ave, on February 6, and the ‘classic’ with FC Porto, on February 12, all for the I Liga.
This meeting also led to the opening of disciplinary proceedings against the Lisbon club, which is still sentenced to pay more than 26,000 euros in fines for various violations, and against assistant coach Adélio Cândido, without disclosing the reasons why they were set.
Paulinho is one of the regular starting players of the ‘green and white’ team led by coach Rúben Amorim and has scored 11 goals in 24 games, including 8 in the League Cup.
FC Porto won the Football League Cup for the first time on Saturday, after beating Sporting 2-0 in the final of the competition, in a match played at Estádio Municipal Dr. Magalhães Pessoa, in Leiria, with goals from Stephen Eustáquio and Iván Marcano.
