Spain international Pedro Porro will play for Tottenham on loan from Sporting in a deal that includes a mandatory release clause for the Londoners at the end of the season, the Premier League club announced.
“We are very happy to announce the signing of Pedro Porro from Sporting. The right-back will join the club on loan until the end of the season, the transfer being necessary to be indefinite in summer. Porro will wear the number ’23,'” Tottenham said, in a statement issued on the official website.
The transfer costs five million euros to the English, who will disburse another 40 million in June. Tottenham also gives up 15% of the transfer of Marcus Edwards to Sporting, the Alvalade club announced in a statement sent to CMVM.
Porro arrived at Sporting in the 2020/21 season, on loan from Manchester City, after the previous season, in 2019/20, he was loaned by the ‘citizens’ to Valladolid.
With training carried out between Don Benito and Rayo Vallecano, the right-back represented Girona in 2018/19, a season in which he played 34 games with the Spanish league team, being signed, at the end of that season, by Manchester City.
Subsequently, the winger was transferred to Sporting for two seasons, communicating the ‘lions’ on May 16, 2022 that they had activated the purchase option of the Spanish international -estimated at 8.5 million euros-, which he signed until 2025 with a termination clause of 45 million euros.
Pedro Porro, 23, has been one of the key pieces in Rúben Amorim’s team, with goals and assists, having won a championship and two League Cups. During this period, Sporting also won the Super Cup, in 2021, but the team did not field due to injury.
The new challenge in the defender’s career is Tottenham, currently fifth in the English league, with the player representing the second English club of his career, despite never having played for Manchester City.
