The English Football League Cup final, which will pit Manchester United against Newcastle, will get supporters mobilized for the first time in 34 years, organizers have announced.
Each club is entitled to 900 seats behind the goals of Wembley Stadium, where the final will be played on February 26.
The presence of standing spectators in English stadiums was banned following the 1989 Hillsborough disaster, which left 97 dead following a crushing crowd at the start of a match between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest.
Three years later, the measure was only applied in the two main English divisions.
In the second half of last season Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham took part in a successful experiment to allow lower division spectators to stand in the stands like Cardiff.
Last July, the government announced that “clubs that adhere to strict security measures” will be allowed to set up permanent stands in stadiums.
