Portuguese Olympian Gustavo Ribeiro qualified this Friday for the semifinals of the World Skateboarding Championship, in the street aspect, which takes place in Sharjah, in the United Arab Emirates.

The third in the Olympic qualifying ranking was exempted from qualifying and did not leave the credits in the hands of others by advancing directly to the quarter-finals with a test, in the second attempt, of 70.03 points, progressing to the next stage .

According to the coach, Paulo Ribeiro, this achievement represents “mission accomplished” for the winner of the 2022 SLS Supercrown.

“Tomorrow [sábado, pelas 14:30 de Lisboa], the registration is in Olympic format and today we were able to understand what else to do. We are going to change the ‘run’ plan and try to integrate maneuvers into what the judges score”explained the coach, quoted in a statement.

The only Portuguese left in the competition, after a male quintet and a female quartet in the ‘open’, wants to “win the gold” and add points to the “ranking”, now looking to “adjust the plan” in connection with a small park and scores that “don’t place much value on” his style of skating, the selector explained.

This World Cup dates back to 2022, as it did not take place in Brazil last year as planned, and it is the highest rated event for the Olympic ranking in view of Paris2024.
