Potential charging of IMI to stadiums concerns League of clubs

The Portuguese Professional Football League (LPFP) is “concerned about the financial impact” that the final collection of IMI at sport venues could have on clubs and asked the Financial Working Group to assess the impact.

The LPFP board, which meets this Wednesday at the organization’s headquarters in Porto, is “closely” monitoring the possibility of charging the municipal property tax (IMI) to sports venues, which manifests itself “concerned about the financial impact such a measure could have on clubs, professional football and Portuguese football worldwide”.

At issue is the possibility that the IMI will charge IMI to sports venues, similar to what it will do to drafts, although several clubs are exempt because they have public utility status and/or their stadiums are considered to be of municipal interest.

The LPFP also addressed the ruling of the High Administrative Court, confirming the ruling in the first instance, which prompted the representative bodies of professional clubs to object to an additional VAT settlement assessment for the years 2003 and 2004, in which the The tax authorities demanded payment of 763 thousand euros.
