It’s the NBA’s magical weekend, where the best players in the world gather in one city for the All Star Game – the game of the stars – of what is the best basketball league in the world. This year, Vivint Arena, home of the Utah Jazz, in Salt Lake City, will be the stage that will have the greatest concentration of talent per square foot. Spectacular skill matches, triples and dunks will be held in the wee hours of this Sunday, serving as a prelude to the Star Game itself, scheduled for Monday morning (1 a.m., SportTV), which pits against selection from the Eastern Conference to the Western Conference, led respectively by Greek Giannis Antetokounmpo, of the Milwaukee Bucks, and veteran LeBron James, who recently broke the NBA’s run-score record, which belonged to legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
The 2023 All Star Game will break the record of non-US players attending, making this professional competition even more planetary. A total of nine foreigners were selected by fan vote, six of whom will be starters, that is, they will be among those who received the most votes. Among those in the starting five are Giannis Antetokounmpo (Greece), Luka Doncic (Slovenia), Joel Embiid (Cameroon), Kyrie Irving (Australia), Nikola Jokic (Serbia) and Lauri Markkanen (Finland). Alternatives are Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (Canada), Domantas Sabonis (Lithuania) and Pascal Siakam (Cameroon).
