AC Milan wins at Monza

AC Milan won today at home (1-0) at Monza in a match of the 23rd round of the Italian football league and equaled second-place rivals Inter Milan, who will play later.

A solitary goal from Brazil’s Júnior Messias in the 31st minute gave Portugal international Rafael Leão’s side the three points, who were well on their way in attack, until he was substituted in the 79th minute.

It was enough for the second win in a row for Stefano Pioli’s men in the championship, after three defeats for these games, and in the European ‘hangover’ after the victory over Tottenham (1-0), in the Champions League.

Based on the accounts made, they now add up to 44 points, the same as Inter, who host Udinese today, and also put pressure on Atalanta, fourth, and Roma, fifth, both with 41 and still without playing in this round.

As for Monza, in which Portuguese Dany Mota started, the first defeat in five rounds does not “squeeze” the good championship and remains in 10th place with 29 in the year of promotion.

In the first game of the day, Bologna Sampdoria won 2-1 and rose to seventh place, with 32 points, ‘sinking’ the home side, 19th and penultimate with 11 points, already eight out of the maintenance zone.

Napoli are the clear leader of Serie A, with 62 points, after opening the round with a 2-0 win over Sassuolo.
