Pedro Martins de Lima, considered the ‘father’ of surfing in Portugal, has died at the age of 92, the Portuguese Surfing Federation (FPS) reported on Tuesday in a note posted on social networks.
“Today we have to mourn the loss of one of the greats. A pioneer of great courage and vision, Pedro Martins de Lima is unanimously considered the first Portuguese to ride waves, our first Surfer, with a capital letter. He left us at the age of 92 to surf new waves”, says FPS on the social network Facebook.
The federation remembers the “charming personality” and “generosity” of Pedro Martins de Lima.
“A great aloha, Pedro. See you forever!” concludes the note.
Pedro Martins de Lima began standing up surfing in 1959, being considered the pioneer of this sport in Portugal.
