Rafael Matos and Felipe Meligeni defeated this Saturday in three sets the Portuguese duo made up of Francisco Cabral and Nuno Borges, achieving the first point for Brazil in the qualifying round of Group I of the Davis Cup World Cup.
At the Viana do Castelo Cultural Center, the Brazilian duo beat today’s best Portuguese duo 6-3, 0-6, 6-3, in one hour and 24 minutes, and prevented the locals from winning the third and decisive point to advance to the qualifying play-off of the 2023 Davis Cup Tennis Finals.
With Portugal leading the unprecedented tie between the two teams 2-1, João Sousa will seek, against Thiago Monteiro, to seal the Portuguese victory in the match between the number ones from each country.
