Bayern Munich coach fined 50,000 euros for criticizing arbitration

Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann has been fined 50,000 euros for criticizing the referee in Saturday’s game against Borussia Mönchengladbach, the German Football Association said on Wednesday.

At the end of the German League game, in which Bayern Munich lost 3-2, Nagelsmann harshly criticized referee Tobias Welz, specifically for the expulsion of center-back Dayot Upamecano, in the ninth minute, although the coach apologized more late.

“Emotions are part of sport, but I have to apologize for my choice of words to referee Tobias Welz,” the coach of the German champions later wrote on Twitter.

Bayern Munich, who suffered their second Bundesliga defeat on Saturday, lead the competition on equal terms with Union Berlin and Borussia Dortmund.

The Bavarian team receives Unión Berlin on Sunday, in a game on matchday 22 of the championship.
