The president of FC Porto, Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa, criticized this Sunday the performance of the VAR in Portuguese football after the blue and white defeat against Gil Vicente, pointing out what he says is a duality in the performances of the refereeing teams, particularly in comparison with the performance of António Nobre in the Benfica match, this Saturday, in Vizela.
“I make a request from here: end the VAR. Because having VAR for some and not having VAR for others has the opposite meaning to the truth of the game. Ending the VAR because you are not doing more than spending money and distorting the truth of the game. championship”, defended the Porto manager in statements to Porto Canal at the end of the match that the gilistas won 2-1.
Pinto da Costa’s criticisms focused on the expulsions of João Mário and Uribe, especially the latter, which was born out of what he says is a “duality in getting yellow cards”. The Colombian was left out after seeing his second yellow card for a foul on Zé Carlos, having seen a first when he committed a penalty on Boselli.
“What happened is absolutely distorting the truth of the game, so it is natural that the whole world saw it, the public saw it and understood it,” he also defended.
“I hope that the Arbitration Council meditates well on what happened on this day and above all on the nominations it made”, the Porto manager also launched, referring later to the Benfica match in Vizela, this Saturday, and the recent episode between the president embodied Rui Costa and the VAR Tiago Martins, after a match for the Portuguese Cup in Braga.
“We don’t treat the referees for you, we don’t call their attention and we don’t even talk to them,” shot Pinto da Costa, who did not stop aiming for another target.
