The Benfica coach was sanctioned this Thursday by the Disciplinary Council (CD) of the Portuguese Football Federation with a suspension of the match and a fine of 1,150 euros, for his expulsion in the Reds match in Vizela.
According to the punishment map, Roger Schmidt caught a thrown water bottle and returned it to the bench where the local fans were, being later sent off, already in added time of the second part of Benfica’s victory over Vizelenses (2-0 ) .
On the way to the locker room, he made a 2-0 gesture with his hands to the fans behind the bench.
Thus, on Friday, the German coach will not be on Benfica’s bench, at the reception to Famalicão, at the Estádio da Luz, in Lisbon, for matchday 23 of the I Liga.
At FC Porto, Mateus Uribe and João Mário, sent off in the loss against Gil Vicente (2-1), at Dragão, were also penalized with a one-match suspension, for which they will miss the Blue and Whites’ trip to Chaves.
