Frederico Morais eliminated from the World Surfing League in the ‘bombs’ of Supertubos

The Portuguese Frederico Morais was this past Sunday in the elimination round of the elite competition of the World Surfing League (WSL) at Praia de Supertubos, in Peniche, behind the American Kelly Slater and the Japanese Kanoa Igarashi.

On a day of very large and powerful waves, ‘Kikas’ scored 5.46 points in the two best waves (3.13 and 2.33), out of 20 possible, placing third in the second heat, won by Kanoa Igarashi, with 11 points (6.67 and 4.33), and with Kelly Slater, 11 times world champion, in second place, with 6.20 points (4.17 and 2.03).

With the elimination of Frederico Morais, Portugal is left without the only representative in the men’s draw, still counting on the Olympians Teresa Bonvalot and Yolanda Hopkins in the women’s competition, who will not go into the water this Sunday.

The MEO Rip Curl Pro Portugal, the third leg of the WSL’s main circuit, kicked off on Saturday, after three days of waiting for the best conditions, a period that will last until March 16.
