Gianni Infantino was, this Thursday, re-elected president of FIFA until 2027, without having any type of opposition.
The 52-year-old Swiss lawyer, who succeeded Joseph Blatter in 2016, will now serve a third term after being elected by acclamation in the city of Kigali, Rwanda.
“I love you all,” Infantino told the delegates.
Although FIFA’s statutes currently limit a president to a maximum of three four-year terms, Infantino has already laid the groundwork for remaining in office until 2031, declaring in December that his first three years did not count as a full term.
In June 2019, Infantino was reelected by acclamation, like this Thursday, for his second term.
