Without Portugal, the Formula 1 World Championship will have 24 races in 2023

The 2023 Formula 1 World Cup calendar was approved this Tuesday by the World Council of the International Automobile Federation (FIA) with a historical maximum of 24 races and not including Portugal.

After hosting the championship in 2021 due to calendar changes caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, Portugal is left off the world calendar for the second consecutive year.

The 2023 season will feature 24 races, the most races ever held in a season, with the inclusion of a third Grand Prix of the United States of America, in Las Vegas, in addition to Miami and Austin (United States GP). .

The championship begins on March 5 in Bahrain and ends on November 26 in Abu Dhabi. The Monaco GP, which was in doubt, remains on the calendar on May 28.

The Qatar GP returns on October 8, after a year of absence, as does the Chinese GP. Another of the FIA’s concerns was to prevent Formula 1 from coinciding with the 24 Hours of Le Mans, on June 10 and 11, a competition that will be held between the Spanish and Canadian Grand Prix.

“The presence of 24 races on the 2023 calendar is testament to the growth of the sport on a global scale. The inclusion of new circuits and the retention of some of the traditional ones underlines the FIA’s commitment to Formula 1,” the FIA said. President. , Mohammed Ben Sulayem.
