Portugal lost this Sunday to Georgia 38-11, in the final of the 2023 European Rugby Championship, played in Spain, at the Estádio Nuevo Vivero in Badajoz, and failed to win the second European title in its history.
At the break, Portugal trailed 12-11, with a try by Tomás Appleton (07 minutes) and two penalties by Simão Bento (29, 33), but Georgia, after touches on goal by Akaki Tabutsadze (14, 25), increased the advantage in the second half, with attempts by Shalva Mamukashvili (43), Guram Papidze (65), Demur Tapladze (71) and Guram Gogichashvili (79).
The ‘wolves’, led by coach Patreice Lagisquet, were looking for their second title in the competition, after proclaiming themselves European champions for the first time in 2004, at that time, under the technical command of Tomaz Morais.
