From Lisbon to Cascais swimming for the first time in September

Portugal will receive for the first time on September 23 a stage of the open water swimming ultramarathon circuit, organized by the World Open Water Swimming Association (WOWSA), the Ultra Marathon Swim Series: it will be the Lisbon – Cascais Crossing, on September 23 September, a Saturday, with a length of 20 km between Doca de Belém (Padrão dos Descobrimentos) and Praia dos Pescadores.

The open water competition is the longest race ever held in mainland Portugal, crossing the municipalities of Lisbon, Oeiras and Cascais.

A second race is scheduled for the same day, half the length (10 km), starting from Praia da Torre (Oeiras) and also arriving at Praia dos Pescadores in Cascais.

“This invitation gave us the unique opportunity to create one of the most challenging competitions in the world in Portugal and to be part of a world circuit. Being internationally recognized for our track record in the sport fills us with pride, particularly in open water swimming. », says Jorge Paulo Pereira, head of the organizing company, in a statement.

“We have already confirmed that the Lisbon-Cascais Crossing and the Oeiras-Cascais Crossing will bring world-class figures in open water swimming, attracted by the uniqueness of swimming in the Tagus estuary and all along this coastline, a true national postcard. . Open Swimming Swimming in water in our country has a strong tradition, which is why we want to rehabilitate great achievements of the past and thus inspire new swimmers.

Registration opens on March 28.
