Brazil’s Supreme Court (STJ) on Friday ordered the withholding of Robinho’s passport as it investigates whether the former player in the country can serve the sentence imposed on him in Italy for rape.
“While the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) is analyzing the request for homologation of the Italian sentence that sentenced the player Robinho to nine years in prison for rape, Minister Francisco Falcão banned the athlete from leaving the country. The European country’s judicial system sentenced Robinho to nine years in prison for participating in the gang rape of a young Albanian woman in Milan in 2013.
According to the Brazilian entity’s statement, the judge considered the “indications” that the former footballer was “trying to escape Italian criminal law” and could also “leave Brazil not to serve his sentence”.
According to the decision, the player’s passport must be delivered directly to the STJ.
Last October, Italy requested the extradition of the former Real Madrid and AC Milan striker following his felony conviction, but Brazil’s constitution prohibits the extradition of nationals.
Consequently, Italy requested that the sentence be served in its country of origin.
The events took place in 2013 when, according to investigations, Robinho allegedly forced the then 23-year-old woman to drink until she was unconscious and then forced her and a group of friends to have sex without her in a nightclub locker room. can resist.
