Benfica is fully in the opinion of the Portuguese: it will be champion and it has the best player in the League

The vast majority of those who responded to a survey for the TSF, JN and DN bet on Benfica as the next national champion. FC Porto, currently second in the I Liga, has a much lower percentage: only 14% believe that the dragons are capable of preventing the eagles from regaining the title. 4% of people vote for Sporting and only 1% for SC Braga.

As for the best player in La Liga, Gonçalo Ramos is the Portuguese favorite at the moment. The Benfica striker has 28% of the votes. It is a considerable difference with the others, and the runner-up in this survey is Rafa Silva, with 14%. The Reds striker is slightly ahead of Diogo Costa, FC Porto goalkeeper, with 11%.

This survey also gives the opinion of the Portuguese on the current state of arbitration in Portugal and the importance of video arbitration. Most people consider the current arbitration situation negative. Only 4% say that it is very positive. The Arbitration Council is seen as the main person responsible for the negative performance of arbitration in Portugal, even more than the arbitrators themselves.

Regarding the VAR, those surveyed consider that nothing has changed since it came into force in Portugal, that is, “everything remains the same”, and they vote even more for the option: “VAR has contributed very little to the sporting truth”.

Data sheet:

The survey was carried out by Aximage for TSF, JN and DN, with the aim of evaluating the opinion of the Portuguese on issues related to the national championship and refereeing in Portugal. The field work took place between March 13 and 17, 2023 and 801 interviews were collected among people over 18 years of age residing in Portugal. Sampling was done by quotas, obtained through a cross-sex, age, and region matrix (NUTS II), from the known universe, rebalanced by gender, age group, and schooling. For a probability sample of 801 interviews, the maximum standard deviation of a proportion is 0.017 (ie a 95% “margin of error” of 3.46%). Responsible for the study: Aximage Comunicação e Imagem, Lda., under the technical direction of Ana Carla Basílio.
