Oliveira, who was third in the last lap, made a mistake and went wide at turn 11 of the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve track, crossing the finish line 2.940 seconds behind the winner, the Italian Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati), world champion.
“I widened the trajectory a bit, I lost the correct braking point and I went wide with all the wind that was blowing and I couldn’t finish the curve and I lost all those positions,” lamented Miguel Oliveira, in statements to the Portuguese agency.
Despite falling four places and having lost the possibility of getting on the podium in the first sprint race in history, the driver from Almada considers that the day “was positive”, after being one of the two drivers to pass the first qualifying, before securing fourth place on the grid for both races.
“It was what we were waiting for. We took a step forward, now with a slightly different bike than today. We managed to be competitive”, highlighted the Portuguese.
Oblivious to the crash suffered the day before in the second free practice, in which he only managed the 19th time, Miguel Oliveira says that, on Sunday, in the main race, there is another chance to get a good result.
“Tomorrow [domingo] we have another chance to get it right. We left the room again. We have to improve some points on the bike and finalize some details that fell a bit short today, ”she assumed.
