The Spanish rider Pedro Acosta (Kalex) prevailed today in the Moto2 race of the Portuguese Grand Prix, practically dominating the opening round of the Motorcycle World Championship from the start.
‘Rookie’ of the year 2022, Acosta showed in Portimão why he is considered one of the favorites for the final victory, clearly prevailing in a race that he led from the second round, finishing in 36.04.193 minutes in the 21 laps.
At the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve, the 18-year-old Acosta achieved his fourth victory in the intermediate category of the World Speed Championship, always managing to control his compatriot Aron Canet (Kalex) at a safe distance.
After turning the first corner ahead, Canet, who is still looking for his first Moto2 victory, was the only one who managed to put pressure on Acosta, although never threatening, finishing second, 1.358 seconds behind the winner, to take the 14th podium in the category.
The Italian Tony Arbolino (Kalex) was on the podium for the sixth time in Moto2, after managing to isolate himself from a group of pursuers, finishing third, in 4.460, with the Czech Filip Salac (Kalex), who had the ‘pole position’, to be fourth, at 7,110.
The second stage of the World Speed Championship will take place on April 2, in Termas de Río Hondo, Argentina.
