The Portuguese canoeist Fernando Pimenta extended the record of consecutive long-distance national champion titles to 15 this Sunday, in K1, by winning in Mirandela, in the first official race of the season.
Unbeatable since 2009, in the distance of 5,000 meters, in which he has even won two European titles and as many world titles, Pimenta completed the race in 20:34.73 minutes, beating Emanuel Pimenta (20:35.27) and João Peixoto Ribeiro (20.35). .49), ranked second and third, respectively
In the women’s sector, Teresa Portela, who, like Pimenta, is a Benfica athlete, won her third consecutive title, fifth at the national level.
Designated as favourite, Teresa Portela completed the course in 23.18.76 minutes, finishing immediately ahead of Maria Rei (23.20.62) and Ana Quintão de Brito (23.24.68), both under-23s, second and third overall, respectively.
Mirandela hosted over the weekend, for the third consecutive year, the event that brings together nearly 1,000 canoeists from more than 50 clubs, who compete in 42 categories between different levels and distances, in K1, C1 and SUPC (standupcanoe).
Qualification for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games will take place this year, at the World Online Regatta Championship, which will take place between August 23 and 27, in Duisburg, Germany.
