The pilot Miguel Oliveira (Aprilia) will miss the MotoGP Argentine Grand Prix, the second race of the World Speed Championship, due to an injury suffered on Sunday in the opening race of the championship, in Portimão, the Portuguese team announced.
“After the crash at the Portuguese GP [na sequência do choque com o espanhol Marc Márquez, da Honda]Oliveira underwent new tests that revealed additional injuries, which do not allow him to participate in the second GP of the season,” RNF Aprilia announced in a statement.
The team highlights that, “despite the setback, Oliveira remains committed to his goal of being competitive in this championship and will focus on his recovery to return in the third round in Austin, Texas, two weeks later.”
The team did not specify what injuries the tests revealed, but the 28-year-old Portuguese driver admitted to reporters on Sunday that he may have injured ligaments in his hip.
The injury occurred as a result of the collision of Marc Márquez’s Honda at the start of the third lap of the Portuguese GP on Sunday, when the Portuguese rider was in second position in the MotoGP race.

The first tests carried out at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve (AIA) medical center ruled out fractures and pointed to a bruise on the right leg.
Marc Márquez, who caused the accident, will also miss next weekend’s Argentine race because he broke the thumb of his right hand as a result of that fall.
The Portuguese GP in MotoGP was won by the Italian Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati), current champion.
