Diogo Ribeiro. Another national record and minimums for Paris 2024

Diogo Ribeiro broke the national record of 100 free kicks today. The Benfica swimmer dominated the heats with 48.01 seconds, bettering Portugal’s previous maximum (48.52) that was already his and surpassing the Paris 2024 minimum mark (set at 48.34).

“I’m happy, national record, record that’s minimal for the Games and Worlds. I hope I do better in the afternoon in the final, because I want 47 seconds. That’s it really, keep pushing and improving the aspects that I missed. Despite wanting to swim in the house of 47 seconds, this 48.01 already makes me dream of medals at the world championships,” said the athlete.

A day after breaking the national record in the 50m freestyle in the qualifiers (21.87) and guaranteeing minimums for the next Olympics and World Cup in Fukuoka (July 14-30), Diogo Ribeiro shined again the second day of the Open Portugal National Youth and Absolute Championships Madeira.

The final of the 100m freestyle takes place today from 5pm and the swimmer will compete in more disciplines this weekend, namely the 50m butterfly that brought him worldwide attention last year.
