The UEFA Congress in Lisbon will re-elect Ceferin as the new presidency

The re-election of Aleksander Ceferin for a new mandate and the choice of Fernando Gomes for the FIFA Council are some of the highlights of the 47th UEFA Congress, which takes place in Lisbon on Wednesday.

The agenda of the event, which will be held at the Lisbon Congress Center between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., will include, in addition to the elections, the presentation of annual reports, including the body’s report and accounts and budget for 2023/24.

Slovenian Aleksander Ceferin, who has held the position since 2016, will be re-elected as president as he is only running for another four-year term, and Fernando Gomes, president of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), will also be elected to the governing body of FIFA.

Gomes, 71, who steps down as UEFA’s vice-president after reaching the age limit, is the sole candidate for the executive body of the body that governs world football, following the resignation of Noël Le Graët as president of the French Football Federation.

The leader of the FPF will be elected to a four-year term, having served two terms of two years each, the last until 2019, without running for re-election in 2021, despite being an executive member of the UEFA has stayed.

Gomes’ candidacy for this FIFA executive body coincides with Portugal’s ‘race’, along with Spain and Morocco, to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

UEFA’s executive committee meets in a press-free meeting the day before, April 4.

The same event will also see the election of a FIFA Vice President, a position that sees Hungary’s Sándor Csányi, the current holder of the position, compete against Finn Ari Lahti, while Debbie Hewitt and David Martin are the candidates for ‘vices’. ‘ from the British FA’s FIFA.
