France, Germany and Scotland face the Eurocopa sub-17 of Portugal

France, Germany and Scotland will be Portugal’s rivals in Group C of the European Under-17 Soccer Championship, the draw held in Hungary, where the final phase of the competition will be held, was announced on Monday.

France, who beat the Netherlands in the final of the last edition, is the current champion of a competition that in 2002 ceased to be played in the sub-16 category and went to the sub-17 category, Portugal having won since then the 2003 editions and 2016 editions.

The Portuguese team, led by Filipe Ramos, secured their presence in the category’s European Championship last week, beating Slovakia in first place in the Elite Round group, with three victories in the same number of games, (2 -0), Poland (1-0) and the Czech Republic (2-0).

Group A of Euro2023 is made up of Hungary, the Republic of Ireland, Poland and Wales, pool B includes Serbia, Spain, Italy and Slovenia and group D will be played by Croatia, the Netherlands, Switzerland and England.

The final stage brings together four groups of four teams each, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the quarterfinals.

The Eurocup will dictate the classification for the World Cup of the same level -which will be held at the end of this year-, guaranteed by the four semifinalists, as well as the winner of a play-off between the two teams defeated in the ‘quarters’ with the best Enrollment in the group stage.

The Under-17 European Championship will take place between May 17 and June 2, in Hungary.
