On Monday, FIFA withdrew the organization of the FIFA Under-17 World Cup from Peru after the South American country revealed “inability” to build the stadiums to host the event.
“Following extensive discussions between FIFA and the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF), FIFA has unfortunately revoked Peru’s rights to host the Under-17 World Cup,” the governing body of world football announced.
Still, the tournament will keep its dates, between November 10 and December 2, 2023, and a new host will be designated “in due time”.
FIFA justifies the drastic decision by the fact that Peru has disclosed “inability to fulfill commitments to complete the necessary infrastructure to host the tournament”.
“Despite a very positive working relationship between FIFA and the FPF, it has been determined that there is now not enough time to secure the necessary investments and complete the necessary work with the Peruvian government before the start date of the tournament.”
