This Monday, FIFA withdrew from Peru the organization of the U-17 Soccer World Cup, because the South American country revealed its “inability” to build the stadiums for the event.
“After extensive discussions between FIFA and the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF), FIFA has regrettably withdrawn Peru’s rights to host the U-17 World Cup,” the world soccer governing body announced.
Even so, the tournament will maintain its dates, between November 10 and December 2, 2023, and, “in due course”, a new venue will be designated.
FIFA justifies the drastic decision by the fact that Peru has revealed “the inability to meet the commitments to complete the necessary infrastructure to host the tournament.”
“Despite a very positive working relationship between FIFA and the FPF, it has been determined that there is now insufficient time to secure the necessary investment and complete the necessary work with the Peruvian government prior to the start date of the tournament.”
