Gil Vicente’s coach, Daniel Sousa, who has not yet lost at home since he took over the team, intends to maintain that unbeaten record in this Wednesday’s game against Sporting, for matchday 25 of the I Liga soccer.
“I would like to maintain that unbeaten record at Barcelos until the end of the season, but we know how difficult the task will be. Our position will be the same as always, fighting for the three points. The other times we had missions that were also difficult and we managed to turn it around,” said the coach, who has led the Barça team since November last year.
The coach acknowledged that this will be a “highly difficult” match for his team, recalling that the lions “have great aspirations in the fight for the top places in the table”, but he also shared the ambition he expects from his players.
“The challenges are great. The good moment of Sporting is seen by everyone, that will give the rival motivation to fight for his goals. But, for us, playing against the greats is also an extra motivation, which we want to translate into attention and concentration”, he revealed.
Asked if the victory achieved at the Estádio do Dragão, on this second round of the championship, can serve as inspiration to try to surprise Sporting, Daniel Sousa considered that “it is not possible to establish a direct relationship” between the two games.
“These are different times and different teams. Obviously, if I say that I don’t believe in winning, that would be my first mistake, especially because we want to, and I am convinced that we will be able to beat Sporting.” More than 90% of the people did not expect a victory for Gil Vicente against FC Porto, and we ended up showing our quality”, he warned.
Gil Vicente’s coach also addressed the fact that he lost the matches of the last two rounds, against Rio Ave and Estoril Praia, considering that, in these challenges, “luck was not on the side of the team.”
“We are in a relatively comfortable position, but not at ease. We want to continue climbing positions. If at one time we were not elated with the positive results, now we are also cautious. We want to score as many points as possible. possible and keep a good playing record,” added Daniel Sousa.
The coach announced that the goalkeeper Kritciuk and the striker Ali Alipour are the only casualties of the team for this game with the ‘lions’.
Gil Vicente, 13th in the ranking, with 29 points, will host Sporting, fourth, with 53, this Wednesday in a match scheduled for 8:15 p.m., which will be refereed by Nuno Almeida, from the Algarve Football Association.
