Portugal loses in Romania and the road to the Women’s Handball World Cup is complicated

The Portuguese women’s handball team was defeated this Saturday in Romania, 35-20, in the first leg of the second qualifying playoff for the 2023 World Cup.

Portugal, which has never been present in the World Cups, receives Romania, on Wednesday, in the second leg, in Paredes, starting at 8:15 p.m., after having reached this tie after beating Azerbaijan, at home, by 36 -12 and on Azeri soil by 32-19, in the first play-off.

The 10 play-off winners will join Montenegro, France and the Netherlands, qualified via the 2022 UEFA European Championship, and co-hosts Norway, Sweden and Denmark, for the 16 European World Cup berths, which will be played between November 29 and December 17.
