Kecmanovic surprises and is in the final of the couples and singles of the Estoril Open

Discreet but effective, Serbian tennis player Miomir Kecmanovic was on the program on Saturday meeting Casper Ruud in the singles final of the Estoril Open, will also compete for the doubles title, which Francisco Cabral and Nuno Borges will not defend.

It went almost unnoticed throughout the tournament, but the sixth seed has had an impeccable job at Clube de Ténis do Estoril, still without set lost. This Saturday, he again rushed to beat Italy’s Marco Cecchinato, the lowest rated player in the league, with partials of 6-3 and 6-1, in an hour and nine minutes.

The 96th ATP tennis player, aged 30, could do little against the former world number one junior player, who, as he himself said, he is unstoppable and still wants more, so much so that, less than three hours after qualifying for the singles final, he repeated the feat in pairs.

Alongside compatriot Nikola Cacic, 23-year-old Kecmanovic defeated Ecuadorian Gonzalo Escobar and Frenchman Fabien Reboul 6-2, 1-6 and 10-3 6-2, 1-6 and 10-3, third seed in the series and responsible for the elimination of the Portuguese João Sousa and the Austrian Dominic Thiem in the chambers.

In the pairs final, the Serbs will compete against the solid Belgians Sander Gille and Joran Vliegen, responsible for the loss of the title champions, the Portuguese Francisco Cabral and Nuno Borges.

Portuguese disabled

The two northerners, aged 26, returned to the central court of Clube de Ténis do Estoril where they experienced the happiest moment of their careers and became the first Portuguese to win the Estoril Open doubles title, but the outcome was not the one expected .

Out and with no solutions to counter the serve from the fourth seed, they lost double 7-6 (7-4), in a semi-final in which they were far from their best.

The only ATP tournament played in Portugal was definitively without national representation, a “disappointment” for the crowd that packed the Estorilista complex this Saturday and that would experience another surprise at the end of the day, in the encounter of the ‘socks’ of singles in which Ruud faced Frenchman Quentin Halys.

After winning the first set 6-4 and looking poised for victory, the world number five tasted the poison of Nuno Borges’ hangman in the first round: supported by his excellent serve, the 80th of arrangement won the second game 3-6.

thanks to a third party setthe finalist in recent editions of Roland Garros, US Open and ATP Finals raised the bar when needed to win the tiebreak by 7-2, closing the match in two hours and 11 minutes.

On Sunday he will play in the 16th final of his career, the first of the season, against the 40th placed ATP. While the Serbian is looking for his second title in four finals, the Norwegian will try to win the trophy for the 10th time.
