After two consecutive defeats and no goals scored, a good start could reassure Sporting to return to winning ways. So it was. The Lions scored two goals in the first 25 minutes and blocked the net to control Estoril until a 2-0 win.
Calle Jeremías Juste and Marcus Edwards scored both goals in the match that gave the Lions their first away win in the league.
The Leonese coach left Gonçalo Inácio on the bench, promoting the author of the first goal to the title. Pedro Gonçalves also returns to the offensive trio.
Sporting has its first opportunity around ten minutes into the game. Corner from the right and Matheus Reis heads the crossbar.
And from the corner came the goal. Now on the other side, Pedro Gonçalves takes the corner and, in the small area, Jeremiah St. Juste just had to put his head on the ball. Sporting scores again after two games to zero.
Estoril responds immediately and simply does not score for a resounding failure. Crossing to the right, Adán y St. Juste interferes and Rodrigo Martins, replacement for Arthur Gomes on loan to Sporting, shoots wide.
In the 21st minute, Sporting’s quick attack: Porro discovers Pedro Gonçalves on the right and serves Marcus Edwards in the middle. The Englishman takes Dani Figueira off the front and makes the second.
Estoril threatens again after a goal from Sporting. Joãozinho isolates João Carlos, but the striker tries a hat that sticks out from above.
After the goals, the game calmed down a bit. Sporting manages to control the game and still has some scoring chances, but continues to make defensive mistakes, which Estoril does not take advantage of.
The game comes to rest with the lions leading 2-0.
In the second half, the match kept the same low pace, but Estoril tried to press harder and get to Sporting’s goal more often.
In a second half without much history and with fewer scoring opportunities, the game slowly progressed towards the end with 2-0 on the scoreboard. Note for the debut at Sporting of reinforcement Sotiris Alexandropoulos who came on in the 89th minute.
