Rafael Nadal postpones the return to the courts and misses the Barcelona tournament

The Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal will miss the Barcelona tournament due to a muscle injury in his left leg suffered in January at the Australian Open, the title record holder announced this Friday in the Catalan event, on clay.

“Barcelona is special because it is my adopted club and because playing at home is always a unique feeling. However, I am not ready yet and that is why I have to continue with the recovery process”, said Nadal, ranked 15th in the world. on the social network Twitter.

The Spanish tennis player, who holds the record for titles in the Barcelona tournament, with 12 trophies won (the last one in 2021), should have returned to competition at the Monte Carlo Masters 1000, which began last Sunday, but he was forced to a new postponement.

The result of the clinical tests carried out in January pointed to a period of absence from the ‘courts’ of between six and eight weeks, which would allow Nadal, 36, to start the season on clay, with a view to participating in Roland Garros, in May, in which he will try to win the ‘Grand Slam’ in Paris for the fifteenth time.
