Benfica was the only one of the big three to have only II Liga teams in its group for the first phase of the League Cup, the draw of which took place this Friday at the Liga headquarters in Porto.
The Reds were included in Group C, along with Estrela da Amadora, Moreirense and Penafiel, while Sporting, holder of the trophy, were included in Group B, with the also first division Marítimo and Rio Ave and Farense, in the second tier.
FC Porto was drawn in group A, with Vizela and Desportivo de Chaves, of the I Liga, and Mafra, of the II, with Sporting de Braga, usual presence in the last stage of the competition, in group D, with Paços de Ferreira and Casa Pia, from the I Liga, and Trofense, from the second tier.
The winners of the eight groups of the first leg of the competition, which will take place between November 18 and December 17, will qualify for the quarter-finals, which will take place in one leg between December 20 and 23.
THE last fourscheduled for Leiria, to be played between January 24 and 28, 2023.
