Sporting de Braga faces Casa Pia and can rise to second place in the I Liga

This Friday, Sporting de Braga could rise to second place in the 1st Portuguese football league, beating FC Porto, if they beat Casa Pia at the Estádio Nacional, in the opening game of the 29th round of the competition.

Minho, third in the ranking, with two points less than the national champion, can also reduce the delay of leader Benfica from six to three points, which has gone four games without winning, including two for the Champions League, in which it was eliminated by Inter Milan in the quarterfinals.

A victory over Casa Pia, who came from ‘wandering’ through the European places, but now occupies a quiet ninth place, will also allow Sporting de Braga to increase the advantage over Sporting, fourth placed, to seven points behind, in the fight for the last place of possible access to the ‘Champions’ next season.

Pressured, or not, by the result of the ‘arsenalistas’, Benfica and FC Porto get into action at the weekend: Porto visits Paços de Ferreira, penultimate place, on Saturday, and Lisbon receives Estoril Praia, 15th, on Sunday and first team above the ‘red zone’.

Sporting, which was eliminated by Juventus in the Europa League on Thursday, will only face sixth-placed Vitória de Guimarães on Monday in the closing game of the day.
