The 2023 Formula 1 World Cup calendar was approved this Tuesday by the World Council of the International Automobile Federation (FIA) with a historic maximum of 24 races excluding Portugal.
After hosting the championship in 2021 due to changes in the calendar due to the covid-19 pandemic, Portugal is left out of the world calendar for the second year in a row.
The 2023 season will have 24 races, the most races ever in a season, with the inclusion of a third Grand Prix in the United States of America, in Las Vegas, in addition to those in Miami and Austin (United States GP).
The championship starts on March 5 in Bahrain and ends on November 26 in Abu Dhabi.
The dubious Monaco GP remains on the calendar on May 28.
The Qatar GP will return on October 8 after a year of absence, as will the China GP.
Another concern of the FIA has been to prevent Formula 1 from coinciding with the 24 Hours of Le Mans, on June 10 and 11, a race that will take place between the Spanish and Canadian Grands Prix.
“The presence of 24 races on the 2023 calendar is a testament to the growth of this sport on a global scale. The addition of new tracks and the maintenance of some of the traditional ones underlines the FIA’s commitment to Formula 1” , according to the FIA. Chairman, Mohammed Ben Sulayem.
