One point behind leader Benfica. FC Porto won against Paços Ferreira (2-0) on Saturday and narrowed the gap to league leaders Benfica in another fine game from the tireless Pepe.
The champion was already ten points behind, but is now only 1. The victory with goals from Taremi and Galeno put Benfica, which plays on Sunday (6 p.m.), under extra pressure.
Fábio Veríssimo had a lot of work to do and after four possible penalty shots in favor of the dragons, the referee even scored a penalty on the fifth (with the help of VAR) and put Taremi FC Porto ahead.
The Iranian seemed to be up to date. He had already missed some chances from those so blatant as to drive fans to despair, but Sérgio Conceição realized he needed affection and applauded for always being in the right place.
The coach seemed to suspect that the attacker would get more chances and he did. In the 66th minute, the Iranian was called up on the 11-meter line and scored the long-awaited goal. The so-called rest goal took a while to come. Only in the 83rd minute did Toni Martínez make it 2-0 and let the dragons breathe better.
There was still time for Eustáquio to take the field with his mother’s name on his jersey, he who learned of his mother’s death in the last game. With this result, FC Porto regained second place in the standings, one point behind Benfica and two more than Sp. Braga.
Paços de Ferreira, who played more than 45 minutes, reduced to 10 points, recorded the third consecutive defeat through the exclusion of Holsgrove, who saw two yellow cards in one minute, and is 17th, with 17 points, in a direct relegation zone.
