In a press conference held at the Estádio do Dragão, Pinto da Costa highlighted the “merit” and “justice” of renewing the FC Porto captain and is confident in the renewal: “It may not be the last.”
Porto’s president, after having ensured that the renewal of Toni Martínez would not be the last in the main team until the end of the season, now says that he is “convinced” that more will come.
“It is a contract that means a lot to me. Many would doubt my ability at 40 years old”, said Pepe, leaving a thank you to everyone at the club.
“Here I learned values that only those who passed through here know. (…) Wherever I am, I will honor this club, ”he assured, launching the intention to continue fighting for titles.
And does the renewal mean that you keep the availability for the selection? “If I’m active, I’m always available for selection.”
Pepe arrived at FC Porto in the summer of 2004 at the age of 21, thus ensuring that he will be at the same club 20 years later. In 2007 he went from the dragons to Real Madrid, leaving 30 million euros in Porto’s coffers.
He spent ten years in the Spanish capital and in 2017 he headed to Turkey to represent Besiktas. A year and a half later he returns to Portugal to represent FC Porto.
