André Villas-Boas, former coach of FC Porto, Zenit, Chelsea, Tottenham, Marseille, among others, will attend a conference/debate organized by Clube dos Pensadores (CdP) on Monday, May 8, at 9:30 p.m., at the Hotel Holiday Inn Porto Gaia.
Joaquim Jorge, founder of CdP, had invited Villas-Boas in 2014 and his participation was then agreed. However, Zenit’s invitation made it impossible for him to come to the CdP on that date.
The Clube dos Pensadores from time to time leaves the subject of politics and forays into other subjects. And football is a subject that the Portuguese are passionate about.
Over time, the CdP has received: Hermínio Loureiro, then President of the League; Vítor Baía, former FC Porto goalkeeper; Fernando Gomes, President of the Portuguese Football Federation; Ricardo Costa, defender of FC Porto; Drulovic, attacker of FC Porto and Benfica, and Reinaldo Teles, former director of FC Porto.
Since then many people have been asking about André Villas-Boas, and for us to return once again to contact him and invite him. So it happened, Joaquim Jorge invited him again, and André Villas-Boas agreed. His reply was quick: “Joaquim Jorge, I owe you this visit; I accept your invitation”.
André Villas-Boas sat in the chair of FC Porto’s dreams in 2010-2011, as a coach, winning everything there was to win – national championship, Portuguese Cup, Super Cup and Europa League – in a season considered by many to be the best of the FC Porto decade.
André Villas-Boas is an eclectic personality. Besides being a football professional, he is a motor sports enthusiast, a devoted philanthropist and a writer in his spare time. He is also currently pursuing a postgraduate degree in Executive Management from Columbia Business School in the United States.
André Villas-Boas is an infallible blue and white player, a member of his favorite club for more than 40 years. He has worked at all levels of the club’s youth system and as a fan he is also a collector of FC Porto memorabilia. His family is closely associated with the founding of the club. All stories to discover and explore in our conversation.
Joaquim Jorge has admired André Villas-Boas since the days when he was his son’s coach, in the early days of his career, in FC Porto’s youth teams.
So it will be a debate that promises to be very interesting and with a healthy exchange of ideas.
