Seven of Miguel Oliveira’s 12 knockdowns were caused by opponents

Seven of the 12 crashes suffered by the Portuguese Miguel Oliveira (Aprilia) in the MotoGP World Championship have been caused by contact with rivals, as occurred today at the Spanish Grand Prix.

Oliveira crashed in the second corner of the fourth race of the season after being run over by the Frenchman Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha), repeating the scenario that had already happened to him in the Portuguese GP, just over a month ago.

At the time, on March 26, it was the Spanish Marc Márquez (Honda) who left the Portuguese driver out of the race by causing an injury to the tendons in his right thigh that forced him to also miss the Argentine GP, the second race it’s from the season.

According to MotoGP statistics, since 2019, the year of his first season in the premier class of the championship, Miguel Oliveira has suffered 12 crashes in the race, seven of them caused by friction from the opponents.

In 2019, when he was in his debut season, still riding the Tech3 KTM, the Portuguese rider was hit by Frenchman Johann Zarco (KTM) at the British Grand Prix. The fall caused an injury to the Portuguese driver’s right shoulder, which he only managed to overcome at the end of the season.

In 2020, at the Andalusian GP, Oliveira was run over again by a brand mate. In this case, it was the South African Brad Binder (KTM) who left the Almada rider out of the race.

That same year, the Spanish Pol Espargaró, another KTM pilot, the brand for which Miguel Oliveira ran until 2022, collided with the Portuguese pilot in the Austrian GP. The incident would end up leading to an exchange of words between the two, considering the Portuguese that not everyone had “intelligence” on the bike.

The truth is that, a year later, in 2021, again at the Austrian GP, and again Pol Espargaró (now already at Honda), touched the Portuguese rider’s motorcycle, causing his fall.

Worse happened in the Algarve GP of that same year 2021, the penultimate race of the championship. Again a teammate of the brand, the Spanish Iker Lecuona, was in charge of leaving Miguel Oliveira on the ground.

The Portuguese rider was even forced to leave the track on a stretcher, as happened this afternoon after Fabio Quartararo collided with his Aprilia and had already happened at the Portuguese GP.

The remaining five crashes suffered in MotoGP races by the Portuguese rider occurred without third party intervention.

Miguel Oliveira withdrew once again, at the 2021 Styrian GP, due to technical problems with the front tire of his motorcycle.

In 2019, Miguel Oliveira also missed the races in Australia, Malaysia and Valencia (the last three of the championship) due to a right shoulder injury, aggravated by a fall in training for the Australian GP, caused by a gust of wind. .
