Portuguese rider Miguel Oliveira (Aprilia) will miss the MotoGP Grand Prix of France, the fifth race of the season, due to an injury to his left shoulder sustained at last Sunday’s Spanish GP, the RNF Aprilia team announced on Thursday.
“Unfortunately, Miguel Oliveira had to withdraw from the French GP due to the shoulder injury he sustained during the Spanish GP. [a seguir à queda] After I managed to get the shoulder back into place, additional tests showed that the injury was more serious, including a fracture of the humerus and labrum of the anterior ligaments.”advances RNF, in a statement.
In the same document, the team the Portuguese pilot is committed to also revealed that Miguel Oliveira and his medical team decided not to proceed with surgery and opt for more conservative treatment.
The pilot from Almada is replaced by the Italian Lorenzo Salvadori, Aprilia’s test pilot.
This is the second race Oliveira has to miss due to injury, having already been absent from the Argentine GP, the second round of the season.
At the time, it was a right thigh tendon injury caused by a shock to Spaniard Marc Márquez (Honda) at the GP of Portugal, on March 26, forcing him to be absent.
The Portuguese returned in the GP of the Americas, finishing in fifth place.
Miguel Oliveira was set to collide again this weekend, this time at the hands of Frenchman Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha), in the GP of Spain.
In the fall, the Portuguese pilot dislocated his left shoulder and suffered a small fracture in his humerus.
The MotoGP French GP is the fifth race of the World Speed Championship and will take place on May 14.
