Benfica announced the transfer of midfielder Julian Weigl to Borussia Mönchengladbach for €7.17 million, according to a statement to the Securities Market Commission (CMVM).
The German international, who was loaned to that Bundesliga club at the start of the season, made twenty appearances this season and scored one goal. Already at Benfica, he made 115 appearances and scored five goals after being signed for €20 million in 2019.
“We are very happy that Julian has accepted our offer and that he will continue at the club. He has been a leader since his arrival. He is a very important player for the team, not only because of his qualities, but also because of his personality.” is stated in a note published on the official website of Borussia Mönchengladbach, currently ranked 10th in the Bundesliga.
Before representing Benfica, Weigl played for Borussia Dortmund, having done all of his training in Munich 1860.
