The referee of the match between FC Porto and Famalicão, which placed the dragons in the final of the Portuguese Cup for the 33rd time, wrote in the match report that he did not hear Colombatto shout “mono” (monkey in Spanish) to Pepe, as the harbourmaster denounced.
In the excerpt from the report accessed by DN, which refers to the incident that kicked off the match in the semi-finals of the competition, Manuel Mota wrote: “At 87′ player number 3 [Pepe] of the A team [FC Porto] addressed the referee and said that player #97 [Colombatto] from club B [Famalicão] called him a monkey. I replied that I did not understand what he said, but what monkey called it no certainty.”
Pepe accused Santiago Colombatto of calling him “mono”, a word meaning monkey in Portuguese, and accused Braga’s AF referee of watching everything without doing anything. At the end of the game and visibly agitated, the central defender remembered that it was his duty as a player, captain of FC Porto and the national team, to report the matter. And so he filed a complaint with the PSP.
Famalic’s player denied. Bielsa quoted for the first time – in 2005 he said in the spa of Marseille – even if it seems impossible to you, do not complain about anything, swallow the poison. Accept the injustice that everything will balance out in the end” – and later released a statement, revealing what he allegedly told him: “Me pegaste un patádon, boludo” (Kick me, you idiot).
On Thursday, FC Porto qualified for the Portuguese Cup final after winning (3-2) against Famalicão, after also winning (2-1) in the first leg.
