“It’s that feeling of promising and fulfilling. We went to hell and left the people of Bethlehem on the brink of paradise.” That is what happens in the soul of Patrick Morais de Carvalho a few hours after seeing the Restelo club return to the professional championships.
In an interview with TSF, the president of the Cruz de Cristo club foresees “many difficulties” for Belenenses next season, in the Second League and stresses that “economically, it will be very difficult to match most of the teams.” However, as they have never seen “a bag of money score goals”, Belenenses will have to “do more with less”.
In the II League, Belenenses will be able to find B SAD, if they do not descend. This is a game that generates a lot of expectations, but for the president it is like any other.

“The rivals of the people from Belen are Benfica, FC Porto and Sporting. AB SAD is a rival like any other, it’s as if we were playing with Cova da Piedade, Arrentela or Aljustrelense. It’s a match like any other. There will be no animosity from the leaders of Belenenses”, guarantees Patrick Morais de Carvalho.
With or without coach Bruno Dias -the leader does not guarantee continuity- and without knowing if he will play at Restelo next season -the stadium must be licensed-, the president should not be the same either.
There are elections on June 24, the club’s treasury is dramatic every month and only if it has a viable budget plan will Patrick Morais de Carvalho go to the polls: “At the moment, those conditions are not met. I no longer have the ability to suffer more, nine years have passed and I don’t think anyone can demand more of me. If the elections were held tomorrow, surely I would not be a candidate.
Belenenses is back in the professional leagues, after confirming its fifth consecutive promotion last Saturday, from the districts to the II Liga: the 0-0 draw against Sanjoanense was enough to throw the party at Restelo.
