The Supreme Administrative Court has lifted the penalty of two games behind closed doors imposed by the Disciplinary Board (CD) of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) on Boavista, of the I Liga, for discriminatory behavior.
A source close to the trial confirmed to the Lusa office this Tuesday the decision of that court, which upheld the appeal of the citizens of Porto against the sanction known almost a year ago, which also involved a fine of 38,250 euros.
Boavista was penalized on June 14, 2022 by the FPF CD, after the opening of a disciplinary process for incidents verified during the draw against Estoril Praia (1-1), on September 27, 2021, of the seventh round of the 2021/22 edition of the I Liga.
The federation invoked violation of the 113th article of the disciplinary rules of the Portuguese professional football league, which provides for holding two to five matches behind closed doors and imposing an additional fine of 250 to 1,250 units of account on clubs that “show the of banners and chants of racist slogans or, in general, any behavior that may violate, promote, approve or tolerate human dignity based on race, language, religion, ethnic origin, gender or sexual orientation”.
On November 16 last year, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAD) had already given reason to Boavista, a decision upheld by the Central Administrative Court of the South (TCAS) and until appeals to the Supreme Administrative Court are exhausted.
The “chess pieces” escape the two games behind closed doors originally dictated by the CD of the FPF, but are required to comply with another similar sanction of a game without fans at Estádio do Bessa, in Porto, with a date and opponent yet to be determined. assigned.
The Supreme Administrative Court rejected almost three weeks ago the appeal filed by Boavista against the decision of the Federal Disciplinary Body, after dereliction of duty at the receptions of Moreirense (1-0), on December 19, 2021, of the 15th round of the last edition of the championship, and Vizela (2-2), on February 6, 2022, of the 21st.
Ranked 10th in the I Liga, with 40 points, Sporting de Braga will receive only until the end of the season, in a game of the 33rd and penultimate round, scheduled for May 20.
