Giggs’ Trial for Sexual Harassment and Domestic Violence Ends with No Verdict

The trial of former Welsh international Ryan Giggs for sexual harassment and domestic violence ended without a verdict on Wednesday, as the jury failed to reach a consensus on the former Manchester United player’s guilt.

After three weeks of hearings and 23 hours of deliberation — over the course of several days — Judge Hilary Manley dismissed a Manchester court jury that would rule on Giggs’ charges of crimes against his ex-wife and her sister, paving the way for a new test.

The case led to Giggs’ resignation as manager of Wales in June, although he has not held those positions since November 2020, when the allegations were made public.

“As has already been made public, I have pleaded not guilty to the criminal charges I face in Manchester court. While I am confident in the judicial process, I would have liked the case to be closed sooner so that I was able to exercise my responsibilities as a manager,” Giggs said at the time.
