Benfica banned by UEFA from selling tickets for the next away game in European competition

UEFA sanctioned Benfica on Tuesday, preventing the Luz club from selling tickets for the next away game counted for European competitions. In addition, the eagles must pay a fine of 35 thousand euros.

The sanction “results from the incidents that occurred during the Inter Milan-Benfica match, on April 19,” explains Benfica, when supporters of the eagles launched pyrotechnic devices in the stands where the Italian fans were.

“Sport Lisboa e Benfica will evaluate the possibility of appealing against this decision that was notified today by UEFA”, informs the club.

After the incidents, the eagles apologized to the Italian club.

Benfica is no longer in European competitions, having been eliminated by Inter Milan in the quarterfinals of the Champions League, so the punishment will only be fulfilled next season.
