UEFA assured this Thursday that the Champions League final will actually be played in Istanbul, Turkey, on June 10 and denies that it has come into contact with federations or governments of other countries to transfer the venue for the final match of the test.
In response to TSFUEFA assures that “the Champions League final will take place in Istanbul, as scheduled, on June 10.”
The body that manages European football denies having contacted any “political institution, government or football federation” with a view to changing the location of the Champions League final.
The British newspaper Daily Mail reported on Thursday that UEFA had spoken informally with the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) to find out if, if necessary due to the political situation in Turkey, the Estádio da Luz could host the final of the tournament. UEFA describes these reports as “inaccurate and unfounded”.
Turkey is about to hold presidential elections and it is feared that there may be some post-election tension in the country.
