The president of Al-Hilal is silent about the transfer of Messi

Al-Hilal president Fahad Bin Nafel declined to comment on the possibility of signing Lionel Messi, insisting the team is “more important than just one player”, as fans are clamoring for the transfer of the world champion.

“Don’t ask me about Messi,” Bin Nafel told reporters after Al-Hilal won the King’s Cup final in Jeddah on Friday. ‘I’m not going to tell you anything new. If something leaves our center, you know it.’

In another on-pitch interview, as the crowd chanted “Messi, Messi”, Bin Nafel said that “The group is more important to me than any player. Every star who comes to our club should know that we are a great club. We strive for improvement (the team). If we focus on one person, we lose the group”.

Al-Hilal has been coached by former Argentina striker Ramon Diaz since February 2022, following a stint with the Riyadh team between October 2016 and February 2018.

After two exceptional years at Paris Saint-Germain, Bin Nafel offers 35-year-old Messi a “massive” financial opportunity, a source close to the talks told AFP on Tuesday.

The deal would mean Messi could potentially join Cristiano Ronaldo in the Saudi League.
