Barcelona president Joan Laporta admitted on Monday that former Portugal international Deco, who currently works as player manager, could succeed Mateu Alemany as sporting director of the Catalans, who were crowned Spanish champions this Sunday.
“Deco, who already works with us as a representative of the club in Brazil, can make the jump to the technical secretariat. If he becomes sporting director, he would have to leave the representative office. We have talked about it for a long time and it seems that he’s better now,” Laporta said in an interview on TV3’s Els matins programme.

In the same interview, the president of the Catalans also spoke about Lionel Messi and the player’s possible return to Barcelona.
“I spoke to Leo to somehow turn around the situation that arose when I had to put the attitude above everything else, including him, the best player in the world. We’ve been exchanging messages lately. The truth is that the conversation was affectionate and pleasant. I congratulated him on the World Cup. I have known him for many years, there is a relationship,” Laporta emphasized.
The president of Barcelona also cited the news that the Argentine points to Saudi Arabia. “With all due respect to Saudi Arabia, which is doing very well, Barca is Barca. And Barca is its home. Barca can compete against anyone. History supports us and the feeling of our 400 million fans is very strong,” said he. underlined.
